New Illinois Library Delivery Service
In cooperation with and support from the Illinois State Library, the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) will begin operating a new statewide delivery service for library materials on January 2, 2008. The service will be called the Illinois Library Delivery Service, retaining the familiar acronym ILDS.
Features of the new ILDS service include:
- Direct, 5 day per week (Monday-Friday) delivery and pickup service for each CARLI Governing and Associate member institution
- Direct, 5 day per week delivery and pickup service for Illinois’ regional library systems to support delivery of materials being shipped between ILDS participants and Illinois libraries not directly served by ILDS
- 24 hour delivery time (Monday-Friday) from pick-up at one ILDS site to drop-off at another ILDS site
- ILDS transportation will be provided by Lanter Delivery Systems, under contract to CARLI, through its agent the University of Illinois
In order to launch the new ILDS on January 2, 2008, CARLI needs to collect and verify information that will allow Lanter Delivery Systems to plan and test its delivery routes.
Please complete the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/ilds by September 28, 2007.
The survey does not need to be completed by the library director her/himself, but the person completing the survey will need to be prepared to provide all of the following information:
- Confirmation of your library’s intention to participate in the ILDS delivery service.
- NOTE: I-Share libraries are required to participate in ILDS to best fulfill the
I-Share resource sharing expectations. - Should you wish not to participate in ILDS, you will need to check with your regional library system about other possible options for delivery.
- NOTE: I-Share libraries are required to participate in ILDS to best fulfill the
- Designation of a primary ILDS contact person for your institution.
- In addition to your library director, this person will receive email communications from CARLI about the ILDS implementation, and will be the person CARLI contacts if there are any questions about setting up your ILDS service.
- You will have the option to add more staff to ILDS email lists and training programs later this fall; but at this time we need one primary contact person per institution.
- Verification of the primary delivery address for your institution.
- Delivery locations must be real street addresses, not post office boxes or campus mail codes, so your delivery address might not be the same address that CARLI uses as your mailing address. Review the mailing address CARLI has on file for your library by clicking on your library’s name in the CARLI online member directory at http://www.carli.illinois.edu/mem-libs.html. In the online survey you will either verify that this is your correct delivery address or provide a different address.
