ILDS Update—January 18-24
ILDS Open Discussion Listserv
CARLI is establishing an open discussion listserv for ILDS. The
original list will be set up with the designated contact for each ILDS
location. All library staff is welcome to join the discussion list.
The list will offer a good forum for ILDS users to discuss the new
system. Please use this list as an additional resource to request bags
from other ILDS sites. Additional information will be provided soon.
ILDS Bags
The State Library’s order of purple bags has been completely
distributed. A reorder is in process. All requests for bags will be
filled with canvas bags until we receive more purple bags. If you have
an excess supply of bags, purple or canvas, please send them to the
Illinois State Library. Please use an item count of 1 on the label
regardless of the number of bags you are sending in one bag.
ILDS Labels
If the online label system is unavailable and backup labels are necessary, please fill in all of the information on the label (origin, date, destination, item count, etc.). Lanter has reported several bags traveling in the system without all of the necessary information on the backup label.
We have also received a few more reports of bags being sent to the wrong location because an ILDS code is similar to that of the intended delivery location. Please remember to check the full institution name as well as the ILDS code when choosing the destination in the label system.
Using Zip Ties
Some bags continue to travel through the ILDS system with zip ties used incorrectly. To lock the purple bags, place the zip tie through the grommet of the bag, and then through the zipper pull-tab in order to secure the bag properly. Some bags are coming through the system with zip ties through the pull-tab only, and this does not keep the bag from opening when it is being transported. On the canvas bags, the zip tie should go through eye of the metal latch after the drawstring has been pulled tight. The use of zip ties is strongly encouraged by both CARLI and Lanter on all bags sent through ILDS, in order to keep your collection materials secure.
Please continue to send your comments and suggestions to support@carli.illinois.edu. Your feedback is appreciated!
